Relaxing Coffee Breaks with Bird Watching

Sometimes it is good to take a coffee break to relax and recharge your mind.

Birds that fly into my balcony often capture my attention during coffee breaks. Thrice, some of the birds chose to build their nests in our balcony. This is the third time the birds have entered our life.  The first encounter occurred when a pair of birds built their nests on the branches of a potted plant. The picture you see is the young offspring of my first visitor.

I took little to no notice of the first bird. But my husband, a bird lover, got excited.  He got an artificial bird nest and hung it in the cosy corner of our balcony. There are many trees within our vicinity. Yet, amazingly, the birds found our nest and choose to make our home their home. The first to show up was the mother bird. I watched her entered the balcony, many times a week. Finally, she brought in the feathers and twigs that filled up the nest. Next the father bird came along.

At first, my family members stayed afar and watched them from a corner, with minimum interference.  But as the days went by, the bird watching moments became increasingly therapeutic. I decided that in my coffee breaks, I should be sitting comfortably in my sofa reading the book while watching the birds. The birds were at ease while they were flying in and out. Watching the birds flying can really help to calm a busy mind. I felt so close with nature when the birds flapped their wings and chirped away.  The thoughts - when the bird is going to lay its eggs, when the eggs are going to hatch, when the mother bird is going to feed its young - were simply soothing. I saw the eggs shell fell off onto the floor. I heard the baby birds chirping when they were hungry. And whenever the mother bird was in the nest, the father bird was nearby guiding and protecting them. Then one day, the 2 baby birds, flew away one at a time.

Such is the joy and tranquility of watching the birds live their life during my coffee breaks. It made me feel so immersed in nature. The calmness just sank in, and I felt at peace each time.

So take your coffee breaks, and find the type of coffee breaks that soothe your mind and body.

P.S. I hope you don’t fall asleep while reading this….and feel like drinking  a cup of coffee. Forward this to someone you think should take a coffee break.
